After all our hospitalizations, we’ve researched and learned what’s truly important.
PLEASE call 911 if your child:
has blue hands, feet, or face
nasal flaring
grunting
chest retractions
audible wheezing (could be mistaken as congestion)
cough with high fever
unable to eat
dehydrated- less urine/ very yellow/ strong odor, very thirsty, very sleepy, headache, cold/dry skin, chapped lips, no tears when crying, fast respirations or heart rate
capillary refills on fingers- squeeze nails and ensure white returns flesh colored
rapid respirations- use chart, count each time your child’s chest raises for 15 seconds, multiply by 4 (fever and dehydration can increase respirations, so attempt to assist those first)
