Summer is a time to play, relax, and lose any form of self-control you’ve ever had, right? I’m talking about the kids, not you- Mom! We were only a few days in when I realized it was time to create a plan, before I lost my mind on these tiny humans I’m responsible for.
I let them eat breakfast, play for a bit, then either circle their chores in different colors or just write first letter near them. I start pretty early (age 2), so they are semi-pro by now and finish quickly. If I have already arranged with a friend, I pull a “I’m so proud of you, that I’m taking you here.” Other times, I allow them to vote for our fun activity, with my vote counting as two! 😉 If I’m feeling brave and energized, I’ll allow the child that has been kindest and most well-behaved to choose activity for all of us.
If you would rather they work all week before earning something, here is a cute way to keep track and a visual for those that perform better this way:
Magnetic Chore Chart for Kids – 4 Chalk Markers – Children’s Dry Erase Chalkboard Calendar for Multiple Household Chores & Responsibilities – Easy-to-Clean Reusable Family Refrigerator Weekly Planner
